Mumbai City FC Crushes Atletico DE Kolkata by  1-0

Mumbai City FC applied break on the winning chariot of Atletico de Kolkata by beating the host team by 1-0 in the football match in Indian Super League (ISL), here in Kolkata, on Tuesday.

The star Uruguayan striker and the captain of Mumbai City FC, Diego Forlan struck the all-important goal in the 85th minute which sailed his team towards winning shore. This was Mumbai’s third win in seven matches played by the team in ISL.

With Tuesday’s win, Mumbai jumped three places up in the pointer table and clinched the top spot by pushing NorthEast United (NEU) to the second position. Mumbai City FC is now holding 11 points after three wins, two losses and two draws while North East have 10 points from six matches.

The Tuesday’s goal was Forlan’s second goal of the tournament. ATK suffered its first loss in the current season of ISL and they are now in the third spot with nine points from two wins, three draws and one loss.

Spectators witnessed a very interesting first half as players of both the teams sweated a lot to score a goal, but neither of them succeeded in their attempts. Mumbai team could take a lead in the 33rd minute of the match but excellent display of game by the ATK goalkeeper Debjit Majumder ruined all hopes of the team. Majumder made a vital save for his team by clutching a ferocious shot by Sony Norde.

Bidyananda Singh gave a brilliant start to the home team in the second half by his skilful crosses but after that both the teams settled down and the match seemed heading towards a goalless draw.

Then the goal moment arrived for Mumbai City FC in the 85th minute when 37-year-old Forlan holed Norde’s deflected shot straight into the ATK net. Mumbai fans roared in excitement as the goal sparked the wave of sensation on the ground. However, ATK too got a chance in closing minutes when the team earned a free kick at the edge of the Mumbai box. Javier Lara took the free kick and charged the ball with great power towards the goalpost but Mumbai keeper Albino Gomes made a diving save.
