Defending champions Chennaiyin FC finally had a taste of successes after they crushed FC Goa by 2-0 in the third edition of Indian Super League here in Chennai, on Thursday evening. The two back to back goals by Hans Mulder and Mehrajuddin Wadoo in the first half of the match sealed the victory of the home team.

Two goals were scored in quick sessions that are in 15th and 26th minute of the match. Now, Marco Mater’s side now has four points from three games while last year’s finalist FC Goa now has suffered three defeats in a row.

It seems warning of the manager of Chennaiyin FC, Materazzi has impacted the players as he had told his boys that he wouldn’t be around to guide them next season if they do not improve and qualify for the semi-finals.

Fulganco Cardozo had made a chance for FC Goa but his long ball was skillfully bungled by goalkeeper Karanjit Singh who turned down the hopes of FC Goa.

He comfortably collected a ball from Raphael Augusto from just outside the box and before giving any chance to the defenders he placed the ball in a goal post. The second goal was scored in the 26th minute by the Chennaiyin skipper, Mehrajuddin who confused Goa defender Richard Dumas and holed a goal by completely beating goalkeeper Kattimani.

Rafael Coelho tried to score a goal in the first 45 minutes but failed in his attempt. Earlier, Joffre Gonzalez’s endeavour also missed the goalpost as his shot went wide in the 42nd minute. FC Goa’s chief coach Zico tried to turn the situations by some attacking changes in the second session, but all his attempts went in vain as Chennaiyin FC defended in numbers. Hence, FC Goa had their share of chances to claw their way back into the game but the attack lacked the sharpness.

While on the other hand, hosts could have won by a much bigger margin if Davide Succi and Baljit Sahani had not missed the call of Mulder, if both the players have shot the ball in goalpost then Chennaiyian FC’s score would have won by 4-0.
