So as I told you, every country has a different day of celebrating National Doctors Day. Why did India choose the 1st of July? You might remember the legendary physician, who was also the second chief minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. To honor his tremendous contribution towards the country National Doctor’s day is celebrated on his birth date 1st July. He was born in 1882 and surprisingly died on the same date in 1962.

His achievements and milestones in medical science brought him great recognition. The country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna was awarded to him on 4th February 1961.

Interesting facts about Doctor’s Day

1. The tradition of Doctor’s Day started in India in 1991.

2. The symbol associated with Doctor’s Day is the red carnation. The colour of the flower stands for love, courage, bravery, sacrifice and charity which are all part of the profession for doctors.

3. In some countries,  this is even declared a national holiday.

4. The concept of Doctor’s Day first took shape on 30th March 1933. It was celebrated in Winder, Georgia, USA.

5. People sent cards to physicians and their wives with a thank you note. Flowers were placed at the graves of deceased doctors.

Significance of celebrating National Doctors Day in India

This is a celebration to show gratitude to all the medical professionals and to value their contribution to this country’s medical development. This is a great way to spread awareness about the importance of doctors in our lives. We often cherish and celebrate actors as heroes but maybe this is the time we address the real heroes in our lives,  the doctors, the soldiers, and the daily workers.

While we are self-isolating ourselves, doctors are stepping into the hospitals every day surrounded by thousands of Conrona-infected patients. They are literally making themselves prone to the disease to keep us away from it. Don’t you think they deserve all the respect?

Celebrating National Doctors Day is also a way for the medical professionals to get closer, discuss the big issues and focus on their work dedicatedly.

1. Give red carnations to your physician

This will be the most simplistic but impactful present. Red carnations symbolize Doctor’s Day. So, your doctor will recognize the cause and be happy that they are celebrated and remembered for their relentless efforts.

You can easily find templates for such certificates in Microsoft Word. Edit it, write your message and print it out. You may printable parchment certificate papers or use normal papers for printing. 3. Treat your nearby medical officials to lunch or dinner

You can arrange a catered meal for the doctors. Another idea could be bringing desserts, crackers, and other such eatables and sharing them. The helping staff and other members can also pitch in their homemade specialties to make this a gathered celebration.

4. Make ways for patients as well to thank the doctors

Make small ‘thank you notes or cards and keep them in a bowl that is reachable for patients. Choose the spots wisely like the reception area, nurse station, and waiting rooms. The container must state, ” You can Wish your doctor’s Happy Doctor’s Day” so that patients are aware.

You never know how your small efforts can make a big difference in someone’s life, so keep doing good things for others.

Doctors are working round the clock and saving lives. 58% of Corona patients have recovered which is a silver lining. Presently, 17,000 to 18,000 cases are getting reported each day. That is an enormous number and the rush is mind-boggling for the doctors. But they are still staying put and carrying on their duties.

Their accomplishments and valuable contributions are unmatchable. We can’t thank them enough for what a blessing they are to mankind. So this 1st July, don’t forget to show your appreciation and gratitude to your doctors in any small way possible. It is important to spread awareness for the true hero doctors are.
