Turkey - Syria Devastating Earthquakes

Nothing is more miserable than losing lives in a powerful earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria last Monday. More than 8000 people were killed, and over 10000 were injured in the devastating Earthquake. As per the report, this is the strongest that has ever happened during the last 100 years in Turkey. The President of Turkey announced a month of emergency service last Tuesday.

The back-to-back earthquakes hit several places in Turkey, and it was 7.8 magnitudes. At the local time of 4:17 a.m., when people were sleeping, the powerful Earthquake happened and snatched many innocent people, including children. Many buildings collapsed during this devastating and powerful Earthquake.

The people of the southeastern Turkish City of Gaziantep on last Monday first felt the powerful shake of the Earthquake. Even the people in Cyprus, Egypt and Lebanon also felt the Earthquake. The rescue mission is still going on, and Erdogan claimed more than 50000 workers in the rescue mission and financial help of $5.3 billion.

The Earthquake has happened in the Pazarcik district jolted Kahramanmaras, including many other places such as  Adiyaman, Malatya, Osmaniye, Hatay, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, and Kilis. Even more than 900 buildings collapsed in this powerful Earthquake in Turkey. The media even showed many merciless moments where people stood on the Snow and watched the workers rescue the injured people in Turkey.

People are in sheer shock and still feel the mighty shaking of the Earthquake that snatches the lives of many people. Even the famous Yeni Mosque in Maltaya had collapsed, which was made during the 13th century. According to the British Archaeological Survey, earthquakes came from their tectonic location. The Earth’s outermost layer had 15 significant slabs, and boundaries between these plates were in a system of faults.

Since the December of 1939, the Earthquake was believed to be the strongest. It killed more than 20,000 people and damaged almost 1,16,720 buildings. On social media platforms, several videos have been shared showing harrowing images. People are taking shelter in their cars on snow-covered roads to save a life.

Ismail Abdullah, a rescue team member, told Al Jazeera that the situation was “catastrophic in every sense of the word,”. He also added, “We are now facing a real catastrophe that we have not experienced for years,”. And finally, he said that “The disaster is far greater than our emergency response capacity. Thousands of families are homeless, especially as we are witnessing a snowstorm, which increases the tragedy,”
